Vancouver, BC – Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN) is thrilled to announce funding for trainees to join the SFU Invention to Innovation (i2I) program this fall! We are covering the full course cost, with two spots potentially available. This is a fantastic opportunity for scientists to gain entrepreneurial skills and translate their research into impactful ventures.
The i2I program is a unique and rewarding entrepreneurship initiative that helps participants build translational skills and an entrepreneurial mindset. Over the course of one year, this part-time program provides graduate and post-doc research scientists, faculty, start-up ventures, or personnel in existing science-based firms with essential frameworks, perspectives, and techniques. These tools are crucial for translating knowledge into real-world applications, starting ventures, leading business development, or increasing commercialization in labs or industry.
Why join the i2I program?
The i2I program equips participants with the skills needed to overcome challenges and bring their research to impact. Here’s what Behnaz Bahmei, Ph.D., Mechatronic Systems Engineering, School of Engineering Science, and KBHN Outstanding Awardee 2021-2022 had to say about her experience:
“I am really happy to have had the opportunity to take this course. The course covered a wide range of topics, including idea generation, prototyping, market research, and product development. The instructors were knowledgeable and experienced in the field, and they provided valuable insights and practical advice throughout the course.”
“The Invention to Innovation (i2I) program helped me to develop an entrepreneurial attitude through my technological skills. It also taught me how to recognize and manage associated risks and uncertainties in the commercialization process. The i2I is a valuable program for scientists, graduate students, and engineers who want to take their ideas from the lab to the market.
The commercialization journey from science-based ideas to the marketplace is quite challenging, and the i2I helps trainees to enhance their chances of success by providing essential frameworks to develop business assumptions and hypotheses, market prioritization, innovation management, and leadership skills. This program has changed my perspective on research and innovation and will be perfect for people who are coming from a scientific world and will help them see new commercial opportunities that were previously unimaginable.
Overall, I highly recommend this course to anyone looking to start their own business or develop their skills in product development.”
