Healthy Communities Manager, City of Surrey
Daljit Gill-Badesha, EdD (Cand) is a seasoned advocate and experienced leader in the non-profit and government sectors, providing leadership for municipal and provincial initiatives. Currently, in her role as the Healthy Communities Manager at the City of Surrey, she is responsible for program development, research/best practice, and management for programs and services for children/youth with special needs and reducing barriers for communities to access community recreation, health promotion and local government. She also developed the framework of practice for the Accessibility and Inclusion programs and formalized partnerships with community agencies serving this area.
Her expertise spans across different age groups with focus on policy initiatives, strategic frameworks, and multi-lingual translation tools to support children, youth and families. These cross-cutting and systemic strategies have often been the first of a kind for the organizations, leading to systemic and policy change. She provides leadership through advisory committees and community planning tables to develop stronger communities. Working with funders, community and government organizations, her pursued her passion for multi-organization collaboration through doctoral education at UBC, with a focus on how power dynamics impact collaboration.
