Dercia Materula is a Research Associate at the University of Calgary School of Public Policy – Social Policy and Health Research Division, specializing on disability policy. Within the realm of disability policy, her current research focuses on care coordination for children with developmental disability in Alberta. Dercia holds a Master in Public Policy from the University of Calgary. She authored a capstone examining the support network available to caregivers of children with developmental disabilities in Alberta. This research proposed recommendations to align the support system to caregivers’ needs and improve access to existing programs, services, and financial benefits. Before joining the School of Public Policy, Dercia worked as a Project Coordinator at the International Research and Exchanges Board, her work centered on promoting gender equality and children under-five and women’s access to health services across rural Mozambique.
