Christine Gervais (Ph.D. Sociology) is an Associate Professor in the Department of Criminology in the Faculty of Social Sciences, and she is a steering committee member of the Interdisciplinary Research Lab on the Rights of the Child in the Faculty of Law at the University of Ottawa. Professor Gervais is actively involved in both undergraduate and graduate teaching in social justice and human rights, with a particular focus on children’s and women’s rights. Her qualitative research has examined the rights-based implications and family-based consequences of harm generated by children and youth, including sexually offending behaviour. Her current research explores both the opportunities and challenges related to upholding children’s rights to treatment, support and protection in the context of Aggression toward Family/Caregivers in Childhood and Adolescence (AFCCA). Her child rights research has been published in Children & Society, Journal of Youth Studies, Child Abuse & Neglect, Journal of Family Violence, and the Journal of Interpersonal Violence.
