Samantha Micsinszki

Registered Nurse, McMaster University

Samantha Micsinszki is a registered nurse with a PhD from the Lawrence S. Bloomberg Faculty of Nursing at the University of Toronto. Her doctoral work examined factors associated with sleep quality in parents of children with Autism Spectrum Disorder. She is interested in meaningful partnerships and engagement in research.

Samantha is currently a postdoctoral fellow at CanChild and the School of Rehabilitation Science at McMaster University and is a trainee at the Bloorview Research Institute. Since completing her PhD at the University of Toronto in 2020, Sam has worked on several research projects at McMaster and CanChild (e.g., McMaster University Co-Design Hub with Vulnerable Populations, Learning Together Simulations). She has a particular interest in patient and family engagement in research as well as knowledge translation and research impact. Throughout her work, she aims to include patients and families with different backgrounds and experiences and strives to conduct research that is relevant and impactful.

Sam currently coordinates the Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN), CanChild Family Engagement in Research (FER) Course (Winter 2021-2022) offered through McMaster Continuing Education and is leading the development of a Leadership Academy that will support FER Course graduates in becoming leaders in family engagement in research across Canada and internationally. She volunteers at childhood disability focused organizations, including as a member of CHILD-BRIGHT Network’s Training Committee; as a co-lead on CanChild’s Knowledge Translation Science strategic plan working group; and as a member of KBHN’s Policy Advocacy Research Training (PART) committee where she was one of two trainee representatives on the KBHN 2021 Conference Planning Committee. Sam actively contributes to supporting patient and family engagement in research through ongoing capacity building initiatives (e.g., simulation videos, webinars, and courses).
