Geil Astorga, Communications Manager
Geil is interested in exploring the role of communication and multimedia in translating research findings into practical interventions for patients. She has led strategic communication and knowledge translation initiatives within the healthcare sector. Before joining KBHN, she worked in a pediatric disability research center, developmental services organization and hospital-based research lab tackling social determinants of health. With a background in marketing, she participated in a federally-funded program powered by Google that helped businesses transition to e-commerce during the COVID-19 pandemic. She also leveraged marketing strategies to engage patient partners and participants in a national clinical trial to identify effective respiratory illness treatments in community settings.
Geil holds an Honours Bachelor’s degree in Communications from McMaster University and a Master’s in Health Science from the Temerty Faculty of Medicine at the University of Toronto. Her research projects focused on the affordances of media for knowledge translation in pediatric rehabilitation research and the application of community-based participatory approaches to improve the experiences of youth with sickle cell disease transitioning from pediatric to adult healthcare settings. She is excited to be part of KBHN’s brilliant team and the Network’s mission of delivering solutions to children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families.
