Vanessa Boila, MEd Student, University of Alberta
Vanessa is a second-year master’s student in the Faculty of Education, Department of Educational Psychology, at the University of Alberta. She is specializing in School and Clinical Child Psychology. Her thesis work is being completed under the supervision of Dr. Jacqueline Pei. In this work funded by the Social Sciences Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), Vanessa is investigating what adolescents with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) want teachers to know about their strengths and struggles across home, school, and community settings.
Some of Vanessa’s research interests include teacher awareness and understanding of FASD, technology presence in learning environments, and arts-based approaches to literacy intervention. Vanessa is also a certified teacher in Alberta, and she has continued to work in multiple roles with the Calgary Catholic School District since 2011.
