KBHN Welcomes Three New Members to the Research Management Committee

The Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN) has an exciting new update!

This year, we’re welcoming three new members to the KBHN Research Management Committee (RMC). The RMC is an essential part of KBHN’s governance and research structure, serving as a Standing Advisory Committee to the Board of Directors. The RMC is primarily responsible for providing oversight for the development of Network research priorities and new funding initiatives and review of the Network research and implementation programs.

Its 15 members represent a wealth of expertise spanning across multi-disciplinary research areas and themes, including but not limited to policy & government, program evaluation, research ethics, commercialization & entrepreneurship, industry collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and clinical diagnostics & screening.

In 2021, KBHN welcomed three new members to the RMC to expand the representation across disciplines and deepen the experience of the RMC. Here’s a quick preview of what each member will bring to the table:

Christina Weise

Christina Weise is the President and CEO of Weise Insights Ltd and past Chief Executive Officer of Research Manitoba, which promotes and supports research in health, natural and social sciences, engineering, and humanities in Manitoba. Christina has a Master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Manitoba and more than 20 years of experience developing and implementing public policy in research and innovation and managing funds and programs to support research.

Brent Wennekes

Brent has over a decade of experience working in communications, business development, and management roles supporting research, technology development, and innovation across virtually all industry sectors and academic disciplines. With specializations in communications for business, research development, start-up business support, and planning and executing strategic consultations and initiatives, Brent joined Mitacs as Director, Business Development for Manitoba in 2018. His mission is to maximize the development of collaborative research partnerships/projects between industry and academia to solve problems, innovate, and catalyze Canada’s next generation of innovators.

Lori Sheremeta

Lori is a researcher and lawyer. Called to the British Columbia Bar in 2001, Lori then pursued her Masters of Law, focusing on the regulation of emerging technologies. She has held positions in academia at the University of Alberta, the National Research Council (at the then National Institute for Nanotechnology) and the government of Alberta through the Alberta Ingenuity Fund.

“I am pleased to welcome Christina, Brent and Lori to our highly effective and dedicated RMC,” said Dr. James Reynolds, Chief Scientific Officer of KBHN. “These new members bring a wealth of knowledge and leadership from many areas of research, law and industry and will be a real asset in helping guide KBHN’s mission to move evidence-based solutions into the hands of frontline service agencies, governments, NGO’s and most importantly to families and children.”
