CALL FOR ABSTRACTS

4th Annual FASD Eastern Ontario Symposium

Thank you to everyone who has submitted an abstract for our 4th Annual FASD Symposium. For those who are still considering a submission, please note that we have extended the submission deadline to Aug. 7, 2020 as a number of interested parties were on vacation.

Theme: Managing Challenging Behaviours in Children, Youth, and Adults with Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD)

ABLE2 (formerly Citizen Advocacy Ottawa) is accepting abstracts for breakout presentations and posters for their 4th Annual FASD Eastern Ontario Symposium. This is an event for professionals, front line workers, individuals with FASD, families, and their support networks. This will be a hybrid conference offering the opportunity for attendees to participate live in-person or virtually. Guidance from the province and city around COVID-19 and mass gatherings will be factored into the planning of this event.

Abstracts must be submitted by email by August 7, 2020, to the following email address: fasd@able2.org.

Please include the following information:

  1. Breakout presentation/poster title and preferred format option (English or French; posters can be bilingual)
  • One hour and fifteen minutes oral presentation (including in-session Q & A)
  • Poster Presentation Area

All sessions (excluding posters) must allow a minimum of 25% of the presentation time for discussion and interaction between presenter(s) and the audience.

  1. Indicate the breakout section under which your abstract is submitted:
  • Strategies to support challenging behaviours in children with FASD (English)
  • Strategies to support challenging behaviours in youth with FASD (English)
  • Strategies to support challenging behaviours in adults with FASD (English)
  • Strategies to support challenging behaviours in individuals with FASD (French)
  • Other strategy-based topics related to managing challenging behaviours among people with FASD, particularly approaches with a strengths-based focus (English)

Examples of relevant propositions may include: FASD & sexual behaviours, involvement with justice, safety in the home, safety at school, mental health, innovative community-based programs, supporting families in remote communities, role of professionals, etc.

  1. List all authors and their affiliations. Provide brief, 75-word biographies for each presenter and a head shot photo that can be used in marketing materials.
  2. Provide an abstract of 400 words maximum including your main argument, evidence and testimonies supporting your claims, and recommendations for individuals with FASD, caregivers and professionals.

Please Note: Presenters of breakout sessions will receive complimentary registration, and accepted poster presenters will be offered a reduced registration fee. Honoraria, accommodation, travel, and other associated expenses are not covered by the conference. Submissions will be reviewed by a committee made up of professionals, front line workers, caregivers and individuals with FASD. Accepted presenters should presuppose prior knowledge of FASD.

Reminder: Local COVID-19 restrictions may result in content being offered in-person and/or virtually.
