Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN) has announced a significant transition in its leadership team. Geoff Pradella will assume the role of interim Chief Executive Officer effective March 1. Geoff assumes this mandate following Nicola (Nicky) Lewis’ announcement that she was stepping down as CEO of KBHN.

This change in executive leadership comes at a pivotal moment for the national network. KBHN continues its transition from funding under the government of Canada’s Networks of Centres of Excellence program, which is sunsetting, to the Strategic Science Fund (SSF) with a focus on the implementation and commercialization of innovative solutions to help children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families to live their best lives.

Geoff, a distinguished leader with exceptional credentials, has been a dedicated member of the KBHN board for more than five years, serving as both Chair and Co-Chair. His deep understanding of the Network’s mission, strategic direction, and the challenges and opportunities ahead makes him the ideal leader to guide the organization through this transitional period. Geoff’s commitment to operational excellence and his proven track record as a leader will ensure that KBHN remains at the forefront of innovation and impact.

I am deeply honoured to step into the role of interim CEO at this pivotal moment in our organization’s journey,” said Geoff. “The path ahead is one of transformative growth, focusing on the implementation and commercialization of our groundbreaking research. I am committed to steering our talented team to achieve the exceptional outcomes we envision for our future.”

KBHN Board Chair, Sara Saber-Freedman said, “Geoff is a nationally-recognized leader in the health care field, and has a deep knowledge of KBHN’s mission and activities. His proven track record of strategic development and operational expertise uniquely qualifies him to oversee this period of organizational growth and innovation. The Board is confident in Geoff’s ability to lead with integrity and purpose, ensuring we navigate this phase successfully.”

Geoff has demonstrated exceptional expertise in the fields of medicine, law, and ethics, highlighted by his senior executive role in negotiating complex agreements at national and international levels. His experience as Chief Strategy Officer at Alberta Health Services showcases his ability to oversee strategic initiatives and drive improvements in healthcare. In his tenure as Vice President and Acting President & CEO of the Calgary Chamber of Commerce, Geoff further reinforced his capability to lead and transform organizations, ensuring their effectiveness and profitability.

KBHN is forming a CEO search committee to find a leader who can build on a solid foundation and continue to drive KBHN towards achieving its goals, including implementing and mobilizing the science, supports and programs created and built over the last 14 years, all of which promise meaningful, impactful solutions to the critical needs of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their families.
The interim CEO will also continue to work alongside the Sr Director, Philanthropy and the KBH Foundation Board Chair on advancing the work of the foundation.
