Introduction to the PART Committee

The Kids Brain Health Network (KBHN) Policy Advisory Research Training (PART) Committee is a trainee-led organization of individuals who work or study in the field of children-focused neurodevelopmental disabilities in Canada.

In collaboration with KBHN, the PART Committee contributes to:

  • Supporting transformative research,
  • Providing training opportunities,
  • Empowering communities, and
  • Translating research findings into early diagnostic, preventative, and therapeutic strategies.

The KBHN PART Committee provides direct support to internal and external trainees by organizing engaging and relevant training and education activities, including a monthly webinar series.

Joining the PART Committee

All members of the KBHN National Training Program may apply to join the PART Committee. If you’re interested in applying, here is a brief introduction to what you can expect as a team member.

PART Committee Responsibilities

As a PART Committee member, you will have three core duties and responsibilities:

  • Working closely with the Training Manager to develop and implement the Network’s integrated training plan
  • Serving as a review panelist or authorizing a subcommittee review panel for trainee competitions in Network trainee-related activities
  • Forging appropriate partnerships that will equip Network trainees with unique skills and multidisciplinary translational health research expertise
I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of the KBHN trainee community, and to connect with incredibly innovative and thoughtful scientists, staff, and fellow trainees. I joined the PART Committee and have since been linked to numerous opportunities and activities offered through the National Training Program that have supported my development as a future researcher, including KBHN conferences, co-leading the PART Committee Webinar series, recognition through awards, participating in implementation science training, and serving as a co-instructor for the Family Engagement in Research (FER) Course.”

~ Dr. Vanessa Tomas, Postdoctoral Fellow (CanChild at McMaster University, University of Manitoba, Canadian Institutes of Health Research)

Benefits of Joining the PART Committee

You will gain hands-on leadership experience by:

  • Forging connections with diverse stakeholders, researchers, and community members.

You can use this opportunity to not only create impact, but explore your interests, sharpen your own skills, and build a strong professional network.
